In Kyle's Files, eighteen year old Wisconsinite Kyle Usher has dreamed up a device that he finds to be the "Holy Grail" of alternative energy, and will defeat, or "take a big bite out of" the big oil companies, thus earning it the nickname "Oil Shark". Kyle gets bent on patenting the device in his own name, so that he may start his own company, Usher Tech., which would focus on promoting the widespread adoption of the Oil Shark by humanity to replace the current outdated energy grid. But there's just on problem:
Kyle doesn't have any money! He can't afford to get a patent. As a last hope, he turns to Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk asking for a donation as part of a proposed investment deal, as a result of Elon's media attention for his kind acts of giving (he had signed the Giving Pledge), his endless thirst for innovation, and his life long mission to ensure the survival of the human race, among other things.
However, in an unexpected turn of events, Kyle discovers that Elon has stolen his ideas, to be used as fodder for his own company and turn a huge profit, without any benefit to Kyle. Kyle now views Elon Musk as his number one enemy, and must seek vengeance. Armed with nothing more than a few mysterious envelopes (and his dad's attorney), Kyle embarks on a trip to California to dispute his rights to the works in a heated legal battle between Elon Musk and himself, with mixed feelings. Will Kyle win? Will he get to live out his dream? Or will he just be crushed my another greedy corporate fist?
